I head up to Langcliffe to bring the cow down that we left up there last week but not unfortunately not
the calf it was very premature and couldn’t survive. |

Gave Ross a hand to dose all his cows. And sort some out for the foot trimmer. |

Robert Bradley brings me 2 steers that he is selling me. James and I have a lovely ride down that well
known car park called the M6, actually going to Birmingham wasn’t to bad coming home was horrendous
as we take an hour longer because they close the motorway between junctions 7 and 10, at least we
won. |

Have a bit of a sleep in this morning not that it does any good. Empty the underground slurry tank. Austin Flint brings me a steer and a yearling heifer that he wants to sell. |

Still living today I think.
Took the feeder wagon to Townson’s to get the cross conveyer fixed, it is getting a lot of silage and Trafford gold under the belt and it doesn’t go round as well as it should.
Brought all of the cows inside that calved yesterday afternoon, it was so wet last night I am surprised the calf hadn’t drowned though it tried hard enough as it made its way through the mud to lay next to the ring feeder.
Whatever claims “Virbamec Super” have about controlling lice they are wrong as I find out trying to get calf to suckle, Itch Itch a squirt of “fly pour” and the problem is sorted. |

Took a steer to CCM Skipton for slaughter for the shop.
Helped Andy move some big bales at Wenningber, it needs 2 of us as we have to drag them from the stack close to the wall so the Manitou can reach them over the wall as it is too wet to go into the field. |
|
14th |
Cleaned the calf building out. The midden is getting very full, it is just too wet to spread any Muck so we just keep stacking it up. |
|
15th |
Brought 9 cows off Highside that are getting closer to calving.
It was a beautiful day it was a pleasure to be out on the hill.
We had to take a gate up with us as the one next to the cattle grid is about kaput and the council don’t seem to want to fix it.
We DEHORNED 2 of the steers that Mark brought, life would be so much easier if breeders did them at a week old. |
|
16th |
Cleaned the silo building out. |

What a miserable day, wet and windy what happened to spring ?.
Neil the vet came and castrated 4 steers, did some PD’s and TB tests and examined a young calf that has hernia problem, we will have to take it to the surgery on Monday so they can operate on it.
Collected some pies from Stanforth’s and delivered some beef burgers to the Craven Arms.
Took 4 cows on to Highside. |
