1st
St. Ronan day, a Celtic monk who is the patron saint of the Scottish town of Innerleithen. Thought to have kept a pet wolf.

In 1911 Britain's first electric trolley buses begin operating in the Yorkshire cities of Leeds and Bradford

Thanks to everybody who braved the rain to make our open day a success 300 people turned up and I hope enjoyed it has much as we did. Thanks also to all the helpers who put a lot of effort in to making it successfull.
2nd I have a Highland council meeting tomorrow so I take Rachel back up to Edinbourgh, and call in to see Kelso Logan who has been ill.

3rd Have a long day at the council meeting. Tom is still tidying up.

4th Put the plastic sheets on the walls of the outside silo pit ready for the grass to go in. Have a meeting with the top man in Semex he doesn't sack me so things aren't to bad.

5th Tom heads back up to Loch Awe. Take 2 newly calved Holsteins to Gisburn auction mart, both sell well.

6th Give Andy a hand to widen a gateway, It was only 8ft wide and the gate was broken and the wall had fallen down so it was time to tidy it up.

7th Have an administration day. No wonder I never make any money I never send any bills out.

Start to have a major tidy up of my office at home.

8th Carry on tiding my office up.

9th Take a 4 year old heifer that we can't get in calf to CCM Skipton for slaughter for the shop. Have to visit the asthma clinic for a check up. Take a round Langcliffe Scars and Highside. Bring 5 cows home from Highside that are getting closer to calving.

10th Swap 2 yearling heifers with S Hopley for his 2 three year olds that we sold him 2 years ago. Stapleton's come and mow 100 acres with tractors and mowers, It takes 4 hours. Amazing.

11th Take 2 steers to New Deer Farm Shop at Weir near Burnley and 1 to the abattoir for them. Neil the vet arrives to do some PD's. Bring the animals that are going to the Highland Show inside.

12th Stapleton's come to pick all the grass up which they manage quite easily in about 7 hours ( it used to take us about a week when we did it ourselves). Get the caravan out of storage and give it a good wash as we will need it next week when we go to the Highland Show. M Cowgill brings 5 holstein heifers to the bull.
13th Tom returns from the wilderness to give Jack and I a hand to put the sheet and tyres on the silage clamp. Go and pick some beef up from
Stanford's the butchers. Tom gets everything ready for Askam Bryan tomorrow.

14th Tom and Sarah go Askam Bryan college's open day with the meat stall and have a good day selling beef. Laura and I go to Honley show where I am judging the Highland classes. A nice show with a good champion from Robert Bradley.

15th Went our niece Charlotte's confirmation in Harrogate.

16th Make sure we have everything packed and ready for setting off tomorrow.
17th Tom sets off early with the animals for the Highland show. We set off a bit later with the caravan.

  NIGHEAN OF AUCHNACRAIG Calves
Bull Calf
18th Tom has all the animals looking good so we help Hazel get the Highland Cattle Society stand ready.

  ALICE OF KIPPER LYNN Calves
Bull Calf
19th Show day. Tom does a wonderful job in presenting the cattle. I just end up on TV with the Scottish minister of Agriculture and Ial. We have 2 blue and one green ticket and thanks to our young handler Dexter Logan we have the champion calf at foot with Maisie.
20th Laura organises a Kist or show box party in the cattle lines for the Highland people. We have to take Maisie to meet the presenters of the
scottish farming program "Landward" as they want her to appear live on their program. It is quite a novel experience all for 30 seconds.

21st I must have eaten a bad prawn as I feel a bit under the weather. After the grand parade Wendy and I left Tom in charge for the last day and we headed up to Blair Atholl for a weeks holiday. Wendy drove.

  HAZEL OF HELLIFIELD Calves
Heifer Calf
22nd Did nothing. Tom calls to say his bag with the Land Rover keys and his wallet has been stolen. Jeremy has to drive all the way to Edinburgh with the spare set.
23rd Had a stoll round Pitlochry and did a bit of shopping. Went to a highland night on the recreation ground. Pipe band, Scottish dancing and Midges.

Tom returns home with cattle and the spare set of keys. No idea what he does for the rest of the week.
  SELIAS 3rd OF DUNACH Calves
Heifer Calf
24th Went to Inverness for the day on the train, How relaxing.
25th I go to have a look at some steers at the Benmore fold at Killin. I buy 10. Then I head to Loch Awe to see the turnip thrower. Wendy stays at the caravan and has a walk to Killiecrankie.

26th Go to the house of Bruar for lunch, The wine is so good we have to return to the caravan for a sleep before returning to do some shopping
27th Walk 4 miles, Yes 4 miles from Blair Atholl to the Falls of Bruar. Come back on the bus. Go and see HABEAS CORPUS at Pitlochry Theatre
28th Arrive home after a nice leisurely drive.
29th Have a ride round all the stock. Take notice of the weather forecast (idiot).
30th Neil the vet comes to PD all the cows and heifers. We also dose (for worms and fluke) and apply a pour on solution to help stop flies and midges bothering the animals and maybe prevent Blue Tongue.
