Open Farm Sunday At Green Farm, Hellifield
Your chance to visit a local farm - 1st June 2008
Open Farm Sunday is a national open farm day, co-ordinated by LEAF. Farmers across the country open for one day and invite people onto their farms to hear and see the positive steps they are taking to look after the countryside whilst producing safe, wholesome and affordable food. The day is a reminder to us all that farms matter!

Sunday 1st June 2008 will be the third Open Farm Sunday (OFS) event. Over 400 farms opened their gates last year. It is a fantastic opportunity for everyone, young and old to enjoy the living, vibrant countryside. Take time to listen to the birds, soak up the scenery, experience the smells of the farmyard and really get in touch with the land and animals that sustain us - feed your senses!

Here at Green Farm we have a little more idea what to expect this year after being astounded at the number of visitors (~500) and the level of interest shown in farming and local food production at last years event (our first). Thank you to all those who came and to all those who helped. A fantastic time was had by all and we can't wait to do it all again! (as long as I'm a little more organised and a little less last minute with the preparation this year - Sarah!)

We're hoping to add to the list of attractions so watch this space!
LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming) is a national charity that helps farmers improve the way they farm by encouraging them to take up Integrated Farming. LEAF also helps to create a better public understanding of farming through a national network of Demonstration Farms, Innovation Centres and initiatives like Open Farm Sunday. They bring farmers and consumers together to raise awareness of how farmers are working in harmony with nature to produce good food with environmental care.
